Room Darkening VS Blackout

Do you need room darkening or blackout? It's a common question. While room darkening is known to remove most light from the space, blackout is often described as complete darkness. Your window covering specialist can help you decide whether room darkening blinds or blackout shades will work best for you, as well as the factors that play into the results. Fabrics have a great influence on your experience, as well as the type of window shades you choose. Your window make-up can affect the way the blinds are installed–even whether they are inside or outside mounted.

Dual Shades

It's known as the "best of both worlds," and you'll see why! You can have the light-filtering shades you love, catching the natural light and landscape views. But, when darkness is what you need, the secondary shade drops into place, oftentimes a blackout roller shade, closing off the room to light and delivering the perfect atmosphere for sleep or binging your favorite series. This Dual Shades design for room darkening shades means that shades operate independently, but all roll up out of the way into one headrail when you want.

Light Gaps

Light gaps often come into play with window shades for a variety of reasons, but often, homeowners don't notice unless they are interested in room darkening solutions. The fit of the shades or blinds into your window frame, the depth of the window, the type of shade and how it is installed–these are all factors that lend to the results. The sliver of light can cause blackout shades to be more like room darkening shades, and many homeowners are happy with that environment. If you'd like to create a truly darkened room, look to LightLock, which adds a channel at the window frame to seal out the light from entering. Another option for design and function is drapery. By adding side draperies to your windows, those halos of light easily disappear.
