The Usual Story Turns Unusual
Each year, Pantone announces a list of top contenders for color of the year, during September’s Fashion Week. Then, at the beginning of December, one of those hues is chosen to reign as the new color of the year.
In a move that breaks with tradition, the color selected, Very Peri, wasn’t on that list. In fact, it wasn’t on ANY list. Why?
It didn’t exist.
Creating a New Color?
The Pantone Color Institute wasn’t sure any of the shades on the list were capable of delivering the message needed for 2022. Facing the unknown calls for comfort. And, because it can be scary to not know what’s around the corner, our world needed a dose of optimism, too.
Very Peri was the result of color experts, artists and designers coming together to create the newest member of the Pantone color collection and color of the year 2022. They started with blue–known for its comfort and familiarity. The addition of violet red added undertones of optimism and excitement.
