The holidays will be here before we know it. If you have friends or family planning to make a trip to see you, there’s no better time than now to set up the ideal guest room sanctuary. At Timan Window Treatments, we have ideas as you create this “just right” space. The goal? Comfort, relaxation, sleep and privacy. If you can deliver that, the stay will be an overwhelming success.
A Warm Welcome Goes a Long Way
Nothing says “welcome to our home” quite like a package waiting for them. Set a gift bag on the nightstand of the guest room filled with sweet or salty treats, bottles of water, some gum or mints. The ideas are endless, but what they’ll remember is how thoughtful it was to find this token of your appreciation as they are getting settled in.
The Bedroom Sanctuary
Traveling can be exhausting for anyone, but especially if it’s long distances. That can even be compounded when children are added to the mix. Ensuring the guest room is ready for their arrival is the first step in ensuring the right environment. A couple of extra blankets, a few extra pillows, a bedside fan to keep the air moving or provide white noise…these items will help them get comfortable in a new home.

Give the Gift of Sleep
One of the most difficult parts of traveling has got to be sleeping. It’s hard to get comfortable in a new bed with different pillows, blankets and sounds in the house. Give them the gift of creating the right environment with window coverings. Here are a few questions to think about the room where they are sleeping:
- Consider the windows. Do they feel drafty?
- Can the space be private?
- Are the window blinds easy to open and close?
- Can guests block in-coming morning sunshine?
- Are there child safety features? (Important if kids are coming to stay!)

Everyone Needs Quiet Time
Consider setting up a corner reading nook–whether it’s in the living room, or the corner of the guest room–so they can have a special space to relax. By adding a chair in an “out of the way” spot, you create comfort–a chance for them to read, relax or take a little snooze. Or, it might be a spot that you yourself escape to when the chaos of hosting gets to be a little too much.

Bathroom Essentials Are Key
One major stressor of traveling is the bathroom. Guests can forget some essentials, so one way to reduce the stress is to provide the little items they may have left behind. Put together a basket of common bathroom products. Some examples of what could be useful? Extra toothbrushes, toothpaste, floss, nail polish remover, clippers…the list goes on, but you get the idea. Having these bits on hand when guests come to stay will keep them from having to run to the store, and you all can spend more time just relaxing together.
